TRON REBIRTH - a new beginning.
In reimagining Tron, I wanted a blend of the original and Legacy. The white and blue from the classic with some of the extra rad from Legacy. I wondered what a whole new Tron might look like? And who would I have on the soundtrack?
The concept started with a very basic pixel art sketch:
From there, I felt I had an idea and so started building it up properly. Very quickly, some elements were in place and I was happy with where they were going. But the one thing I just couldn't figure out was what his head would look like. A helmet like on the Legacy lightcycles? Or something different? Something less human?
This wasn't right. I needed something with more humanity. More soul. So I took the same idea and showed a hint of human face inside. This felt a little like the early Tron Legacy footage they used to sell the movie:
But it wasn't rad. Wasn't cool. Didn't do the amazing Bruce Boxleitner justice. So tried a more open helmet. Then added a visor but the helmet went a bit Strontium Dog:
At this point, I knew what I needed to do. That helmet had to go altogether. Let's see his face. And here it is. Tron Rebirth. I'd love to get together with some of my favourite artists and make a Tron tribute art book and CD set.
